HIV Treatment in Resource-Limited Environments: An Approximate Dynamic Programming Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and its cause, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), are significant public health concerns. By the end of 2005, there were 40 million people infected with HIV, 5 million new cases, and 3 million deaths from AIDS worldwide [6]. HIV attacks the CD4 white blood cells, damaging the immune system. As the virus depletes the patients CD4 count, the immune system deteriorates, and patients become more susceptible to opportunistic infections, such as pneumonia and malaria [5]. The transition from HIV to AIDS generally occurs when the patients CD4 count falls below 200cells/mm3 of blood, or approximately 15% of normal levels.

An Efficient Approach for Bottleneck Resource(s) Detection Problem in the Multi-objective Dynamic Job Shop Environments
Nowadays energy saving is one of the crucial aspects in decisions. One of the approaches in this case is efficient use of resources in the industrial systems. Studies in real manufacturing systems indicating that one or more machines may also act as the Bottleneck Resource/ Resources (BR). On the other hand according to the Theory of Constraints (TOC), the efficient use of resources in manufact...
متن کاملMathematical Programming Approach To Allocate Local Or National Resources For Bridge Maintenance Rehabilitation & Replacement Planning (RESEARCH NOTE)
Today’s, the transportation facilities such as terminals, street, bridge, etc, represent the major investment in highway network. Every year tremendous resources should be invested to maintain these facilities. Among them, the Bridge Management System (B.M.S.) has been necessitated by large imbalance between extensive bridge repair and maintenance needs and limited available budget. So the main...
متن کاملApproximate Incremental Dynamic Analysis Using Reduction of Ground Motion Records
Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) requires the analysis of the non-linear response history of a structure for an ensemble of ground motions, each scaled to multiple levels of intensity and selected to cover the entire range of structural response. Recognizing that IDA of practical structures is computationally demanding, an approximate procedure based on the reduction of the number of ground m...
متن کاملReconfiguration of Supply Chain: A Two Stage Stochastic Programming
In this paper, we propose an extended relocation model for warehouses configuration in a supply chain network, in which uncertainty is associated to operational costs, production capacity and demands whereas, existing researches in this area are often restricted to deterministic environments. In real cases, we usually deal with stochastic parameters and this point justifies why the relocation m...
متن کاملThe Price of Nonabandonment: HIV in Resource-Limited Settings
The global fight against HIV/AIDS is hindered by a lack of drugs in the developing world. When patients in these countries initiate treatment, they typically remain on it until death, thus policy makers and physicians follow nonabandonment policies. However, treated patients develop resistance to treatment, so in many cases untreated patients might benefit more from the drugs. In this paper we ...
